Community Connections
Community Connections provide us with ways to serve Fort Collins in the name of Christ. We model our passion to serve after Christ, who himself was a servant. Our desire is to think of others before ourselves, and be agents of good in our community. As we become selfless servants we become more like Christ. This ministry helps us live out the last portion of our mission statement, “Partner with Christ in service.” Here are ways we show God’s love:
Homeless Gear / Children in Need
The mission of Homeless Gear is a simple one. Collect unwanted Outdoor Gear (packs, sleeping bags, tents, tarps, etc), Outdoor Basic Clothing (coats, rain gear, boots, etc) and Hygiene Products & re-distribute these items to the homeless. Homeless Gear intends to find a home for all unwanted outdoor gear and make the outdoors a little more like home for those without permanent shelter. Emmaus Road partners with Homeless Gear / Children in Need at their monthly distributions.
Matthews House
The Matthews’ House aim is to provide mentoring, counseling, and life skills as a solid foundation upon which transitioning youth can implement positive life changes as they navigate through difficulties relationally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Volunteer opportunities include weekly mentoring, being a host home, teaching life skills training, housing volunteers and others.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat of Fort Collins changes the lives of local low-income families by helping them build a home. They offer hand-ups, not hand-outs. Families are required to pay for the house through “sweat equity,” and are taught important life skills along the way. Emmaus Road has a unique partnership with Habitat through Financial Peace University (FPU). We contribute to life change by teaching proper financial management and stewardship. Volunteer opportunities include helping with home construction, working at the Habitat Home Store, and helping with childcare during FPU sessions.
Alpha Center
Alpha Center is a medical and counseling clinic that helps those facing STD’s, crisis pregnancy, and much more. We are partnering with Alpha Center to bring hope and healing to those facing these challenges through mentoring, parent training, and financial responsibility.
Catholic Charities
If you’re looking to help out around Fort Collins but don’t know how; come participate with Emmaus Road. Every third Tuesday of a month, Emmaus Road helps out Catholic Charities by preparing food and serving the homeless the amazing delicacies that have been prepared. Emmaus Road also provides bread to Catholic Charities that is left over after a pastry breakfast has been given, every Sunday.
The volunteering goes from approximately 5:30 until 7:30.
